Ancient Rome History

The Ancient Rome is considered to be one of the successful imperial powers in our history. Its regal period began as early as 753 BC till the time their republic was founded in 509 BC. The Ancient Rome is inhabited by various people from different culture. Allies of Rome were adopted by Romans and eventually were granted citizenships. This civilization started from small villages and agricultural communities. It was only after 12 centuries when they shifted to monarchy then eventually to republic and autocratic empire who ruled and dominated Western Europe.

The Legend of Romulus and Remus

According to legend, it was Romulus and Remus who founded Ancient Rome. They were twin brothers, descendant of Aeneas and were abandoned by their parents when they were still babies. It is said that their mom Rhea Silvia was raped by Mars, making them half divine. They were left in a basket and were placed to the River Tiber and were discovered by a female wolf who nursed them. They were then saved by a shepherd who raised them. When the twins were old enough they founded the city. Harmony between the two did not last long for they quarreled over who would take over as the king of the city and Romulus killed Remus. Romulus became the sole founder of the discovered city which was named after him-Rome.
