A hundred works (of which about 60 oils on canvas) by the great Norwegian master, precursor of Expressionism, an artist who represented modern existential angst like no other. The exhibition is made up of loans from the most renowned international museums and most important Norwegian exhibition venues. Strongly influenced by the Nordic culture of those years, above all literature and philosophy, from the dramas of Ibsen and Strindberg to the existentialist philosophy of Kierkegaard and Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis, Munch contrasts figures from the external and objective reality with images from his tormented interior vision, replacing concrete aspects of the world he lived in with the obsessive phantoms of his complex interior life.
