The museum itself is found the fourteenth- century palace, Palazzo Vitelleschi and it holds a unique collection of Etruscan objects, most of which come from finds in the many necropolis' which exist in the area. Example include cremation objects and various funerary items such as biconical urns, various items of bronze jewellery, ceramics, mirrors and other such objects.
On the ground floor of the museum terracotta and stone sarcophagus' are on display while the last floor is dedicated to tombs from the necropolis of Monterozzi. Visitors can also watch illustrations of the techniques of recovery and restoration carried out on these objects. One of the rooms on the last floor there is a permanent exhibition of objects from Tarquinia, including the “Cavalli Alati”.
