Mopeds (Motorini) and scooters, called Vespas or wasps in Italy because of the buzzing noise they make, are an efficient way of getting through the traffic. You may want to stick to quiet streets to begin with, though, Although motorcyclists have to wear helmets by law, moped riders over 18 don't. However, you can hire helmets from most hire shops in Rome.

For the ciclyst, a 15 km long cycling track takes you from up- town - the Castel Giubileo dam in the northern side of Rome - to Ponte Risorgimento near the historic centre.
The Cycling tracks in Rome run along the following itineraries:

- from Ponte Risorgimento to Villa Borghese
- from Villa Borghese to Villa Ada
- from Ponte Sublicio to Ponte della Magliana
- from Ponte della Magliana to Ponte di Mezzocammino
- from Via Giulio Agricola down to via Nobiliore.
